When I set my grocery bags down, the boyfriend bobbed over and looked in. “Are we having fried chicken?” he asked. His relatively new awareness of the low carb spectrum (and how it fits together) was starting to become useful. There are only so many ways to combine meat, leafy greens and dairy. ”Of course,” I said, and watched hungry hope slide across his face.
Last night we made Cleo’s breaded buffalo wing recipe. It involved, in order: tiny chicken bits, egg dip, pork rind shake-n-bake, deep-frying oil, and a bottle of buffalo wing sauce. This woman must have the midas touch, because they tasted better than the real thing. Which, for me, can be a problem. When food tastes so raunchy that I don’t know I’m not eating KFC, my muscle memory from back in the day knows just what to do. Eat more. I ended up having a few sausages, absolutely no vegetables and zero gym time. After that, my mind danced to things we don’t keep in the apartment.
This report, however, does have a silver lining; it was the first time in so very long that I started to stray, caught myself and decided it was worth resisting. I am still on Atkins, didn’t cheat, and plan to hit the gym tonight.
The sky is overcast with possibilities.

Congrats
I’ve been doing research all night on the Atkins diet and it’s good to find someone it’s working for.
Finally settled for a low carb(induction) and low calorie diet. 20/1300… (sound any good..? )
Looking around for things to eat has suddenly become a huge challenge o0
Do you think you could point me towards any useful site or books?
Oh..And how tall are you?
Depending on your height/weight, 1300 might be a tad low. I usually shoot for 1800-2200, because I am a bigger guy (6′2″), and because if you go too low calorie, you can’t eat enough fat to successfully control your appetite. Atkins is less dependent on a low calorie intake, but I watch mine just to make sure I’m not topping 3000 a day. Although eating lots of vegetables tends to keep me in check, things like sausage can pile on the calories pretty fast. You just have to find a sweet spot with your calories, not too low and not too high.
I like these two diet forums: http://www.lowcarbscoop.com and http://www.lowcarber.org ; they seem better than the rest I’ve posted on. As for books, I’d just stick with the official Atkins book, and maybe Dr. Atkins’ cookbook.
You are doing so well! I am proud of you.
Hey, thanks for the shout out E.
